Astonishingly, this feat’s been accomplished without gene therapy. Rather than cut and paste genes together to create a designer mouse, the researchers combined two zygotes to create a chimera with one, specific defining feature: hyper-long telomeres. Scientists have long suspected that telomeres, the protective envelopes that keep our genetic data safe, were the key to aging. Whenever our cells divide, our telomeres become shorter and we lose little bits and pieces of our chromosomes....
Up front: The researchers conditioned laboratory mice by simultaneously shocking them and making a clicking noise. The mice naturally associated the sound with the shock and, thus, developed a fear response. Because the mice remembered being shocked, they associated the noise with discomfort. The researchers then injected the mice with propranolol, a beta-blocker, and the results were shocking: nothing happened. The mice should have gained amnesia and forgotten the association between the clicking noise and being shocked, but they didn’t....

According to a report from The Information, the company is preparing a new product called Tivoli that’ll be rolled out later this year. It’ll initially work on text, and will live in Google Search. The news comes, ironically, during Sony’s celebration of the PlayStation brand’s 25th birthday. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) CEO Jim Ryan told GameInformer during its retrospective that the Vita was “brilliant in many ways, and the actual gaming experience was great, but clearly it’s a business that we’re no longer in now.” Yeah, we all knew, especially after the Vita was cancelled, that the possibility of another was not likely. The company has announced a new software development kit (SDK) specifically designed for building tools to control its cameras remotely. Among other things, the software will offer control over your device’s autofocus, shutter speed, and much more. “With the new SDK, key camera controls and still image data captured will be available for remote access, including adjustment of camera settings, shutter release and live view monitoring,” the company explained in a blog post....

In the past three days, Square’s share price has set three consecutive all-time highs, both intraday and closing. And so, in a bid to make individual shares more affordable, both tech giants announced they’d be “splitting” their stocks later this month. But, traders have recently pumped both companies’ shares; Tesla’s stock surged more than 30% in the six days following its split reveal, and Apple’s is up 24%. As a result, Tesla added $85.8 billion to its market value while Apple’s grew by $318.6 billion. The stock splits will work like this: Tesla stockholders will have their share count multiplied by five (5-to-1 split) on August 28, but the underlying value of their investment will not change....
Thing is, while we have the strong suspicion this is a nothing but a publicity stunt for Escobar Inc., we don’t know this for certain. Especially now it looks like Apple will actually have to deal with this lawsuit head on.
