One of the physicists, Italian researcher Enrico Fermi, scoffed at this notion. He did some math and came up with a number to dispute the other researcher’s conjectures. Oxfordshire County Council is using technology from UK start-up Zipabout to help manage demand on its bus network as COVID-19 lockdown restrictions continue to be eased in the UK. Zipabout’s Passenger Connect service will deliver personalized journey updates for bus passengers on how disruption and crowding may affect their travel, as well as providing alternative options. Passenger Connect also identifies key workers and essential journeys to help transport operators and local authorities plan timetables....

According to a report from Bloomberg, Sony did most of their negotiations with Microsoft without informing its internal PlayStation team about the development. When the news hit, the employees who worked on the PlayStation (and the upcoming PS5) were “caught off-guard,” and “[managers] had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company’s next-generation console weren’t affected.” I would assume that means workers had the immediate suspicion most people had: would Xbox and PlayStation start crossing over?...

A company spokesperson provided the following comment to Engadget when asked about the test: To be clear, this isn’t the same as the “Behind the Lyrics” feature that Spotify currently has. That feature displays selected snippets with some context provided by Genius, rather than complete lyrics you can sing along to. Engadget suggests that if Spotify keeps the full-fledged lyrics, the Genius option may be removed. The US implementation, as with the version in 26 other countries, continues to use lyrics service Musixmatch....

For decades, scientists have been pushing for a lasting change to remove such palettes from public consumption, but the battle over universal accessibility in science communication rages on. This is according to Citizen Lab, a research group based in Toronto, who scripted group chat conversations and sent them to three test WeChat accounts — two based in Canada, and the other in China. Also known as Grätzel cells, dye-sensitised solar cells (DSCs) are a type of low-cost solar cell that use photosensitized dye to convert visible light into electricity. Previous versions of DSCs have been reliant on direct sunlight, but a team of researchers at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) have found a way to make transparent photosensitizers that can absorb light across the entire visible light spectrum, including both direct and ambient....

Tencent pocketed 38.5 billion yuan ($5.8 billion) between July and September this year to eclipse analyst estimates by nearly 25%. The company’s total quarterly revenue increased 29% year-on-year to 125.45 billion yuan ($18.4 billion), powered by strong growth in Tencent’s smart phone games. In fact, Tencent’s online games revenues reached 41.42 billion yuan last quarter ($6.3 billion), a 45% rise year-on-year. “The increase was primarily due to revenue growth of our smart phone games, including domestic titles such as Peacekeeper Elite and Honour of Kings, as well as overseas titles,” said Tencent in a statement....

Over the past week, a petition was submitted to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which contained 127 complaints of incidents where Tesla vehicles had allegedly accelerated without warning.
